Kidney disease is often silent in its early stages, which is why it is easy to miss. Knowing the signs that do appear can help you get tested sooner. Early signs include foamy urine, tiredness, swelling around the eyes or ankles, and waking at night to pass urine. Later signs include persistent leg swelling, poor appetite or nausea, a metallic taste, itching, and shortness of breath from fluid. Little or no urine, blood in the urine, severe flank pain, or sudden breathlessness need prompt medical attention.
