A High Creatinine Result: What It Means
Why creatinine rises, and what a high reading can and cannot tell you.

Creatinine is a waste product made by your muscles and cleared by your kidneys. When the kidneys slow down, creatinine builds up in the blood — so a high value can be an early warning.
But creatinine can also rise for harmless reasons: dehydration, heavy exercise just before the test, a high-protein meal, or certain medicines.
Do not panic or self-treat. Repeat the test, stay adequately hydrated, and let a clinician interpret the trend together with your eGFR and a urine protein result.
Products marketed as kidney cleanses or detoxes have no evidence of benefit and some are harmful. Discuss any supplement with your doctor.
