Glomerulonephritis is inflammation of the glomeruli, the tiny filters inside the kidneys. It can appear suddenly or develop slowly over years.
Common signs include blood or protein in the urine, swelling around the eyes, and high blood pressure. Some people notice foamy or tea-coloured urine.
Diagnosis uses blood and urine tests, and sometimes a kidney biopsy. Treatment depends on the type and may include medicines to control inflammation and blood pressure.
