Lupus nephritis is kidney inflammation caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease.
Signs include protein or blood in the urine, swelling, and rising blood pressure. A kidney biopsy is often done to guide treatment.
Treatment uses medicines that calm the immune system and control blood pressure, with careful long-term monitoring.
